About April

Addicted to paper and art supplies from birth, and with an amazing seamstress for a mother, it was only natural I would find my way into the worlds of design and handcrafting. To me, quilting is the perfect blend of hobby and practicality, color and design, structure and creativity.

Since I was a little girl I have been obsessed with all things creative. I loved the back-to-school sales because they meant new pencils, crayons, and notebooks. I would spend most of July and August poring through my mom’s craft books finding the perfect handmade project for each member of my family, and then earning money to buy the supplies. As a teenager I found my creative outlet in music, participating in both choral and instrumental venues. In college, foreign languages were my muse. As a young married woman, I turned to sewing and design. Through many different mediums I have found joy in creation, in both the process and the result.

I try to live each day as authentically as possible, to be sincere and kind, to speak fairly of everyone, to use manners even if no one else does.

I love to learn. Though I’ve finished my “formal” education for now, I’m constantly on the lookout for new skills to acquire. My family jokes that I know how to do everything, and I joke back that I know how to Google. In all seriousness though, learning is one of my passions. I hope to pass that on to my children, and even on to other friends and family. I feel I have been extremely blessed by my ability to do. I hope to never stop learning.

I am mom to two beautiful toddlers, wife to my amazing husband, and happily staying at home to care for them. It is, of course, the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I wouldn’t change it for the world. When all is said and done, I want my children to love themselves, each other, their family, community, country, and world. To be clean, honest, polite, kind human beings. To be their best possible selves. To find something they love and grasp their dreams with both hands. To know how to learn, and love to do it. To have purpose in their lives, and act with direction.

I dream of someday living in a farmhouse, surrounded by fields and mountains that change with the seasons, with enough space surrounding me to see the stars at night, and close enough to the rest of the world to not run out of gas before I get there. To make my home a place of solace and beauty, where old traditions and new innovations merge to create perfect charm. I want to sit on the porch with my sweetheart in our old age and be surrounded by the family we began.

I hope to run an honest and charitable business, and to someday complement my patters with fabric I have designed.

I love simplicity. Color. Wind through the leaves. Creating. Autumn. Herbal tea. Beadboard. Paint. Fabric. Falling snow. Quilts. Pen and paper. Homemade whole wheat bread. Words. A clean house. Church. Reading.

Most of all, I love to share things I feel passionate about with others. I’m so glad you’re here.

xoxo

    1. So glad you stopped by! Wouldn’t it be nice if we really could just sit down and chat? I even have some honey a sweet neighbor got from her very own bees, if you can believe it. I’ve love a cup of tea with you!

  1. HI April. When I saw a reference to you on http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/ I had to come check you out. :-) Love your website.

And I just have to comment on your paragraph that starts with “I dream of…” it matches my “Someday” dream so perfectly, I could have written it myself. Except my farmhouse is filled with tons of children and the fields full of cows and pigs and chickens. *Sigh*
