Unquilting

In case you were operating under the illusion that all my sewing projects come out just as planned….

There I was, minding my own business, quilting some fun “googley eyes*” onto my quilt, when the screw came out of my bobbin case. Tension issues ensued. I didn’t find out until sometime later.

I will be unquilting some ~10 million stitches this evening. And looking for a screw smaller than a grain of rice. And making a huge sign that says CHECK THE BOBBIN SCREW EVERYTIME YOU CHANGE THE BOBBIN to hang right in front of my face on the wall. In case you’re curious, this is not the first time the screw has fallen out. Apparently it vibrates itself just enough to wiggle free.

No, I am not amused. Yes, I am annoyed. Wish me luck.

*Yes, I’m really calling that quilting design “googley eyes”. It’s perfect.

    1. Yep, he struck again this time, too. He found it within minutes of looking. Me? I looked for over an hour.

    1. Who, you? No. You have never quilted a quilt badly, I am sure of it. Everything I have ever seen of yours is gorgeous. :) Crappy quilting is for noobs like me. xoxo

    1. Ooooh, I hate that! It’s the worst to know your pain can’t be blamed on anyone but yourself. :( Glad you’re done though! I’m just getting started…

  1. Lordy I just did that a couple of weeks ago. I was making postcards for an exchange group and kept having thread problems. Instead of taking the time to trouble shoot completely I just kept rethreading and plugging on – I was so close to being done. 2 inches from the end of the last postcard I pulled the bobbin out to unjam everything again and low and behold it was in pieces. Luckily I found it. Course not before I’d talked myself into wanting a new machine!

    1. And those darn screws are SO tiny! Glad you found yours, my husband found mine when he got home from work. I’m thinking of putting a tiny bit of tape over it. Think that would work?

  2. Doesn’t sound like an enjoyable experience. I went to a free motion class tonight & didn’t enjoy it. I have practice work that I swear was done by a 2 year old with a fat crayon in hand. At least you have beautiful stitch work on the top to look at while you unpick :) Good luck.

    1. Hah! My first free motions samples were less than pretty, believe-you-me…I really love doing it now though. Maybe give it another chance sometime–maybe you’ll upgrade to a 3-year-old with a skinny crayon! ;)

  3. Can’t you call someone about that screw? It shouldn’t do that. Maybe you’ll need a carpet pad under your machine so the darn thing isn’t falling out into actual plushy carpet. I still say, if they can put a man on the moon–they should be able to keep a tiny screw from falling out of a million dollar machine.
    But that’s just me.
    Googly eyes IS perfect. :}
