Children are running and playing, weaving through potluck tables set up in a cul-de-sac while the dads grill burgers and the moms fuss with the table settings and chat with each other. Overhead, fireworks are going off in the sky and the teen boys are throwing a baseball. That nostalgia for fireworks and summer nights inspired Star Spangled, my latest Red, White and Blue collection. With lots of love for my country and flag, and the perfect retro prints and florals to evoke some treasured memories, this collection is sure to find its’ way into every corner of my home during the summer months. It’s Blockheads Wednesday! Do you have any tips It’s Blockheads Wednesday! Do you have any tips for using directional fabrics in your blocks? I’ve been driving all across our valley watching soccer games but these blocks have been a fun little sewing moment for me. I actually made last weeks blocks last Monday (designer perk :)) but didn’t get pictures taken until today 🤭😂 I had so much fun working with directional fabrics for my blocks for today! I find that a little planning ahead makes all the difference, especially when cutting directional fabrics. For most blocks I just get piecing but when I know I want a specific look I definitely lay everything out and make sure to cut my pieces so that the directional prints flow! On both my block 2 blocks, I used directional prints—in the 12” block I used the Lunar print from #starryskyfabric and I used the Pine Trees print from #candycanelanefabric—see how fun those prints are all facing the same direction? I also fussy cut the center squares. Those prints are from Starry Sky and #xoxofabric ❤️ ❤️ I’m using the patriotic and holiday #twinklefabric prints for backgrounds—did you know those are a basic at @modafabrics ? They are my very FAVORITE backgrounds. The other two red prints in block two 12” are from my #orchardfabric and the other red and the light green in the 6” block are from my #lovelilyfabric collection. ❤️ The red plaid in block 1 is from my #mamascottagefabric and the greens are Twinkle fabric (basic) and Candy Cane Lane. The blues in block 1 are from Starry Sky, the red is from xoxo fabric, and the center is from #berrybasketfabric 😅I made it! ❤️ #modafabrics #showmethemoda #aprilrosenthal #prairiegrasspatterns #modablockheads #modablockheads5 #quiltalong #patchwork #quilting
