I like the design style groupings. I think it's easier to understand and grasp than the common styles that you find (i.e. eclectic, modern, etc). Those always confuse me.
It's a nice change of a format from a traditional quilting book.
Two of the patterns use paper piecing, and a basic tutorial on the paper piecing technique is included. (If you're completely new to the technique, though, a few YouTube tutorials will be a better introduction.) At the end of the book, there is a detailed discussion of batting options, hand vs machine quilting, and even instructions on how to make your own pillowcases with simple embroidery.
Overall, this book could be great if you have trouble visualizing patterns or making your own fabric choices. I'm no expert, but in a few years of quilting I've already taught myself the basics of fabric selection, and this paint-by-numbers approach taught me nothing new.
Disclosure: I received this book through the Modern Quilt Guild, in exchange for my honest review.
